Was driving from home back to work when from far away I see this yellow car (FD3) RX-7. I hop on a major freeway and here he comes in the carpool lane going probably 70 and I'm doing about 60. I thought he was going to slow down so I waited. As soon as he gets a little past me, I punch it in 3rd. Things are going great and he's barely ahead of me and I feel like I'm inching on him UNTIL I miss-shift into 4th. (don't know whether I released the clutch too soon or what..) but he just pulled on me a lot.. I'm fixated on winning and I shove it into 4th 2 more times and I hear it grind and finally get it in... punch it again and He's gone by then. The road is open but say F**K it and slam on my brakes (whatever I have left of them) I finally get up to him again as he's smiling at me saying 'nice run' I get to my exit at work and say oh screw it, I'll be a little late. We pull over and talk for about 45 min. All he has done was exhaust and downpipe. The interior was mostly gutted because of a roll cage he's installing. I had told him that I wish we could have staged up and raced from 60 and had told him I miss-shifted into 4th. He agreed that I would have beaten him w/ what I have done. Wish the freeway was more open so we could have run again but it was more of playing than a real race. We exchanged #'s since it's rare to see nice cars around these parts. He has a really nice Yellow FD3 w/ Blitz rims and HKS exhaust. So lessons learned, 1: when you see someone creeping up on you, DON'T give him the jump. 2: Learn how to shift.
